As part of the recent federal election in Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced plans for a $2.3 billion initiative aimed at cutting the cost of eligible battery systems by 30%-40%, helping more Australians maximise their solar investment and lower energy bills.
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program, when legislated and rolled out from July 1, 2025, would deliver significant financial incentives for households, small businesses, and community organisations looking to invest in energy storage.

Who’s Eligible:
At present, the eligibility criteria for the scheme is light in terms of details, but we know that these 3 groups will be included:

Delivery Mechanism:
The scheme will be administered by the Clean Energy Regulator under the proven Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, which has successfully subsidised solar panels and hot water systems in Australia for years.
